Blog #5- Relationships

Never did i think i would be willing to personally share my opinion and emotion on my past relationships. I think my view on my relationships may be the best way to have me express my emotion in the rawest form. I guess i could start by saying that no matter how many of my girlfriends that i "say" i loved there is actually only one that i can i say i really meant it. I would disclose her name but for privacy purposes ill keep it to myself. When i met this girl she had a boyfriend. From the gate natural instinct would tell me to leave this girl alone but there was something about her that i just could not stay away from. She would go on to leave him for me and this would start our 4yr journey. I am no longer with this woman but the relationship that we shared was something i could never replicate no matter how similar any female was to being her. I know what your thinking, if it was so good then why doesnt it exist anymore.......To be honest it was due to the immaturity on both of our parts. We were young and we were envied and once we let that get between us there became no more "US". I still keep in contact with this female to this day, but will there ever be another spark? I have no clue and im more concerned with enjoying life right now as long as she makes me smile and i can keep her happy then what more should i ask for?
Thank you for reading.

Writers Choice #2- Obesity in america

What is obesity? the definition of obesity is: The state of being obese due to an excess of body fat. The united states of america is considered to be the most obese country in the world. The blame seems to be put on fast food restaurants and american's eating habits. Not only is obesity a strain on american's health but also financially. According to a researcher from RTI: Erick Finkelstein "The results also showed that an obese person has $1,429 per year more medical costs, or about 42 percent more costs, than someone of normal weight. Costs for an obese Medicare recipient are even greater." obese people are spending more on medical bills. Obesity is now considered a disease. Also obesity has no discrination all racial groups are targeted in the obesity epedimic. If america plans to reform its obesity problem it should look to limited fast food suppliers and also more affordable healthy food products.

Writers Choice #1 - Life after college

The topic of every college senior or what should be the main topic of every college senior is "whats next". When i say whats next i mean as far as jobs and employment in the United states. Recently the United states was in a deep recession that seemed to only get worse with time. The constant fluctuation of the stock market, and the steadiness of the rising unemployment rate is enough to make a college senior go nuts. So whats next? do you look forward to unemployment? What is out there to guarantee a college scholar that their investment in a college education was worth it? The real concern is what are colleges doing to educate their students on today's job market. What type of job placement programs are there for graduating students?

Critical Thinking #3

For my critical thinking exercise i used an article about a situation in the NBA. I took an article from Fox Sports News and also Kidult (online news website for a younger demographic). The article that was on the Kidult website used very basic language but resorted to using more direct quotes from the NBA commissioner rather then using a lot of their own words. With the seriousness of this topic and also the viewers that they aim to attract i believe that they made a conscious choice of limiting their own views. Fox Sports news which has a broader audience uses more of their own input and language. They also took a little more initiative to dig into the story and express the reactions of people who were offended by what the article was speaking about. Fox also used direct quotes and used more colorful words such as "derogatory" or "homaphobic". The pictures they used to display kobe were along the same lines, it was a basic snapshot but with kobe bryant having a "I dont care" body language.

Critical Thinking #2

You are covering a story for your radio station about possible ground contamination of a nearby playground. Neighbors tell you that their children are getting sick. You need hard evidence to prove the allegations. The nearby factory is suspected of being the cause of the illnesses but they deny it. A worker at the factory says he has the documents to prove that the factory is responsible but he wants $1,000 dollars for those papers. Do you pay him or not? Think the issue through critically and respond with an intelligent well thought out answer.

If put in this position i feel that i would not pay for this information. I feel that in fact with the publics help and the story without the information will raise awareness about the situation which will cause a higher authority to gain interest in the situation. Paying someone for information seems like not only an unsure situation but also morally wrong. In this situation i would first speak to the community of kids and find out they're symptoms and what the parents of the community have to say about it. Then i would approach a representative of the company about the situation and inform them that im writing a story about the situation and ask for they're cooperation.

Critical Thinking

I recently read an article about Rupert Murdoch's son in both a New York Times and also the New York Post. Both articles touched on the upcoming Promotion for James Murdoch. The article that was posted by the New York times gave a great amount of detail about his new promotion and also background information. The article used lots of common vocabulary and also accompanied their article with a picture of James Murdoch. There was a lot of spacing and paragraphs in this article. Compared to the Times article the New York Post article was very short and didnt really get into too much information on the deal. Everything was kept short and simple as in just giving the basic who, what, when, where, and why.

They say the four years you spend in college will change your life. Who is "THEY" you might ask yourself as you read this, THEY are your parents, your neighbors, your boss, your friend, older people who you meet who ask you what your plan is after high school. These are the people who will tell you what it is before you get to live it. Me as a college student can say first hand that college has truly made me who i am today. Not only in the educational aspect but also as far as maturity i don't think i would have came all this way without college. I made friends here, i laughed here, i cried here, and i had many of crazy experiences here. College has been an outlet for all of my ideas and an outlet for me to express who i am. College gave me a chance to start over and make myself a new person in the eye's of new people, and these people would be the ones i grew with the people who looked out for me when i needed it the most. When i leave college i will have left here taking with me all four years of learning life on my own and knowing what its going to take to survive. This is just a starting point its now time for me to create my own life beyond these classrooms.

The things that matter today wont matter tomorrow. If this statement applies to you as an individual then then maybe you live in the future. what is the future? "The future is the indefinite time period after the present". Being that we cant predict, tell, or experience the future then why is it so important? I ask myself this question everyday as i wake up in the college dorm which i took out a loan for which in the FUTURE ill have to pay back. Although i make some brash comments about the meaning behind future i value my future and the steps that im taking to ensure my happiness in the future. I will admit now looking at my past i made a lot of bad decisions which ultimately put me in the place i am today. I spent way too much money on credit cards, i have outstanding debts not including my current school, i have been too inebriated at times to finish homework which ultimately lead to my grades dropping, i have been through it all. The point i want to make is yes its good to live for today and plan for tomorrow but try not to let your past or present hinder your future

The word LIFE for me is just an acronym .......LIVE, IF, FOREVER, EXIST. I say this only because a lot of people i come in contact with worry about tomorrow so much that today doesn't exist. I personally wish people would take advantage of life and its rarity. Lives are lost everyday, there are millions of abortions, and too many people die young. "Life is what you make it" is what i have always been told to believe. My personal definition of the word life is not to be mistaken as live life and don't worry about consequences. Life comes around once, lately i have felt like i am not taking advantage of life. The more that i worry about future problems the more i forget how special life is and how much I, my friends, my family, everyone i know will miss life when its gone. The moral or thought that i would like to provoke is why is anyone's life better or worse then someone else's? Why are you here? What is your purpose? Everyone should have a purpose in life or at least one that they believe in. Without a purpose what do we live for? If i had to take a stab at what my purpose is i would say its to bring light to people's dark situations. That idea may seem a little far-fetched but i believe it 100%. I believe that god (me mentioning GOD is not meant to bring up a war about religion its just my belief) places me wherever i can meet people that need a ray of light in their dark times. Until life is over for me I am gonna live it as if forever exist.
